Oak Leaf Cross Cushion - Oat & Coral

£350.00

For the Oak Leaf Cross cushion embroidery design Lora found inspiration in her research into an archive of folk drawings made by Pennsylvania Germans who lived in rural parts of southeastern Pennsylvania and the surrounding region in the 1700s and 1800s. Lora has joined the fabrics together in a way the evokes traditional quilting which she had been doing a lot of the year this collection was made and is a strong tradition in American textiles history.

The piece is embellished using a textile technique called applique to get the silhouettes of the leaf shapes. Theses are all cut by hand from antique millinery velvet in a beautiful soft yellow and then embroidered around the edges to fix them in place using a freehand embroidery machine.

Materials: Coral Italian linen, and Oat Scottish linen woven in a factory in Fife 100% linen, linen backing. Zip closure along the bottom.

Embroidery: Antique millinery velvet with ceramic threads

Through Lora’s work she has uses a combination of hand and machine embroidery with exquisite attention to detail. Each piece is totally unique and her combinations of materials reflect Lora’s training in mixed-media textiles at the Royal College of Art.

Dimensions 48x48cm, with duck feather filling.

Dry clean inside out only.
