Introduction to Hand Embroidery - One Day Workshop

Time: 10am - 5:00pm

Where: Lora’s studio, Fusion Arts Kingston. Closest train station Kingston-Upon-Thames, Greater London

This is a one day workshop is taking place in person in a large light space at the top of Lora’s studio building. The class is a beginners class for people who are interested in learning embroidery, no experience necessary, but could also benefit people who are more experienced and would like to broaden their idea of embroidery.

Stitches you will learn will include (but not limited to)

  • french knots

  • couching

  • blanket

  • chain

  • chain variations

  • stitching with ribbon/braid

Day Schedule:

10-10:30: Meet outside Lora’s studio building, go up to the space and have a tour of Lora’s studio space. Then we will get settled into the room we will be working in and introduce ourselves.

10:30-13:00: Introduction to Lora’s work, a look at samples, and discussion of embroidery stitches, materials, and qualities. Student’s will learn a range of useful stitches.

13:00-14:00: Lunch

14:00-16:45: Exploring more embroidery stitches and experimenting with different materials and variations on the techniques learnt in the morning session.

16:45-17:00: Show and tell and tidy up.

Transport: Located a 5 minute walk from Kingston overground station, with many car parks in the area, and bus stops just outside the door of the studio. More information will be sent closer to the time.

Accessibility note: The only way to access my studio space is via stairs, the lifts in the building are not working, therefore I cannot accommodate anyone who is unable to walk up several flights of stairs. Please accept my apologies about this!

Food: Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available through out the day, but lunch will not be provided. The studio is in the centre of Kingston with lots of options of places to eat for lunch. Lora can advise you on the day or you can bring your own packed lunch.

Materials : Although all basic materials will be provided for the workshop, you will receive an email once you have booked with the information you need including any additional materials you might like to bring once you have booked your place.
