Silk flower making workshop - October

£145.00

Date: Saturday 25th October 2025
Time: 10am - 5:00pm

Where: Lora’s studio, Fusion Arts Kingston. Closest train station Kingston-Upon-Thames, Greater London

This is a one day workshop is taking place in person on Saturday 25th October 2025 . Depending on how many students are attending, we will either be in a large light space at the top of Lora’s studio building or in her own studio space. The class is for any level, if you are more advanced then you can take the techniques further, or you can just stick to simpler styles. There will be a good amount of hand sewing in this class, so ideally you would know some very simple sewing techniques but that is not a requirement to do the workshop.

Lora will teach you how to make two three-dimensional silk flower stems. She will show you how to make the stem, the petals, leaf, and centre and how to put it all together. Hopefully you will come away with at least two flowers, depending on how fast you work!

In addition, you will get a short tour of Lora’s studio and she will show you her sample portfolio as part of the workshop.

Two flower styles you will learn to make:

  • Closed ‘peony’ style

  • Open ‘cosmos’ style with a centre

Day Schedule:

10:00: Meet outside Lora’s studio building

10-10:30: Go up to the space and have a tour of Lora’s studio space. Then we will get settled into the room we will be working in and introduce ourselves.

10:30-13:00: Introduction to Lora’s work, a look at examples, and discussion of materials, and different types of flowers. Then we will start with the hand sewn fabric covered wire stem, and attaching a leaf. Students will start looking at fabric pleating and materials for flower heads.

13:00-13:30: Lunch

13:30-16:45: Exploring more with pleating and learning the two different techniques of making a flower head and centres, and how to attach them to the stem. Making a second stem and attaching the flower head in this time.

16:45-17:00: Show and tell and tidy up.

Transport: Located a 5 minute walk from Kingston overground station, with many car parks in the area, and bus stops just outside the door of the studio.

Accessibility note: The only way to access my studio space is via stairs, the lifts in the building are not working, therefore I cannot accommodate anyone who is unable to walk up several flights of stairs. Please accept my apologies about this!

Food: Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available through out the day, but lunch will not be provided. The studio is in the centre of Kingston with lots of options of places to eat for lunch. Lora can advise you on the day or you can bring your own packed lunch.

Materials : All basic materials will be provided for the workshop.

You will receive an email once you have booked with all of the above information. If you do not receive this please check your junk/spam inbox, if it is not there then please contact Lora; hello@loraavedian.com
