Embroidered Lampshade Making Workshop
Date: Saturday 22th & Saturday 29th August 2026
Time: 2pm-5pm BST for both classes
Location: Online
This two day workshop is taking place online over two consecutive weekends, for three hours on each day. This is a very special class because Lora will be teaching embroidery in the first class and her mum (lampshade expert) Ann Avedian will be teaching students how to attach the embroidered fabric to the lampshade and finish it to a high standard in the second class.
The embroidery will be an elegant white on white linen floral design and you will learn how to attach it to a 30cm wide lampshade hoop - which works perfectly for a pendant lamp (pictured).
The class is for people who already do a bit of embroidery or know how to sew to a basic level. It would suit someone who is interested in learning some of Lora’s embroidery techniques and how to apply them to a lampshade, creating something both beautiful and useful for your home.
Day 1 (with Lora):
We will be going through the different stitch techniques, looking at materials, thinking about how you can create texture and interest with white on white embroidery.
Embroidery stitches you will learn will include (but not limited to):
French knots
Couching
Back stitch
Open daisy
Stitching with ribbon/braid
There will be a design that Lora has created to work from (see images), or you can create your own with the techniques and material given. Students work on their designs through the week before the next class.
Day 2 (with Ann):
We will be learning how to make our fabric into a simple loose pendant lampshade.
Techniques you will learn:
Binding the hoop
Machine sewing of hems and join
Pinning and hand sewing your fabric to the hoop
Materials :
This class includes a materials kit, what we provide:
White linen base material (cut to size)
ribbon/trims
embroidery thread
hand sewing needles
binding tape
30cm round pendant lamp frame
lampshade design template
sampling fabric
hand embroidery guide
You will need to provide:
domestic sewing machine
white thread for your domestic machine
pins
water soluble pen
low tack tape
iron/ironing board
embroidery hoop
The kit will be sent out to you at least 4 weeks prior to the workshop. To ensure kits arrive on time especially for over seas customers, Tickets for the workshop will close 6 weeks prior to the class.
Although the majority of the materials required for the class will be provided for the workshop in your kit, you will need to use a domestic sewing machine to finish the edges of the lampshade (you can hand stitch these if you prefer).
Participants will receive an email a few weeks before the class with the information you need including any additional materials you might like to bring once you have booked your place. If you do not receive this please check your junk/spam inbox, if it is not there then please contact Lora; hello@loraavedian.com
Recording
A recording of the class will be available to view online after the workshop for two weeks.
Cancellations
Bookings on the workshop are non-refundable, but can be exchanged for a credit note for future workshops or products on Lora’s shop.
